Nottingham Jaguars v  Steelers 3 (B-Team) 16th October  2010

Steelers 3 made the short trip to Newark to play the Jaguars in a potentially tricky fixture without Harry Brown and Jack Waring who were both unavailable.

The Steelers team were keen to build on their impressive start to their first season in Division 1 and quickly built up an early lead. Joe Caudwell scored 6 points in the first Quarter as Steelers extended their lead to 16:8 at the end of the Quarter.

There was no let up from the Steelers in the 2nd Quarter as they continued to build a comfortable lead to go into the half time break leading 32:14.

In the 3rd Quarter, the Jaguars team found their form and started to haul in the Steelers lead. Steelers defence, which had been so tight in the first half, broke down with a lack of communication allowing the Jaguars to score freely. By the end of the 3rd Quarter, Jaguars had reduced the Steelers lead to 10 points. Despite a further determined effort from the Jaguars in the 4th, Steelers held the lead at 10 throughout the second half until an Ian Brown 3 pointer and a Will Blanche Free Throw in the last minute reduced the lead to 6 points.

The final score was Nottingham Jaguars 50: Steelers 3 56 giving the Steelers a 3 and 1 record in the League.

All the squad stepped up to fill the void left by Harry Brown and Jack Waring. Terry Clarke showed his wealth of experience by holding the team together during the second half fight back by the Jaguars. Clarke and Manja Wolfram led the scoring with 18 points each. Mark Schofield and Maddie Thompson chipped in with 8 and 6 points respectively and the scoring was rounded off by a 6 point contribution from Joe Caudwell.

As always, this was a great team effort and Paul Gregory, Liam Twigg and Steve Ryan all came on at crucial periods in the game and made a valuable contribution.
