Community Sport Programme

The Sheffield Steelers believe in the importance of educating the wider community about what they do – and the best way to learn about wheelchair basketball is by playing it!

The Steelers regularly bring their game to schools to introduce wheelchair basketball to students both able-bodied and otherwise. In these road shows, Steelers coaches bring 10 sport wheelchairs and demonstrate basic skills and techniques to give the children a go at playing this incredible sport.

The Club also runs activity days with Sheffield Activity Sports, a council initiative that runs throughout the summer and school holidays, and visits sports centres around the Sheffield area, introducing wheelchair basketball to a diverse group of people.

It doesn’t matter if you’re able-bodied or otherwise – everyone and anyone can play wheelchair basketball with the Steelers. If you’re interested in playing or want to learn more, contact the Club or stop by one of the training sessions at the Northern General Hospital.
