Steelers win their first game of the tournament

Having played the two toughest teams of the competition yesterday, Steelers came back fighting against Beit Halochem Haifa from Israel. Steelers started with 3 "big" (players) and a young combination - Manning, Caudwell, Greenfield supported by guards Hayes and youngster Scholefield.

The input of youth paid off as Steelers showed grit and determination, battling basket for basket and going into an early lead before the team from Israel caught up. An injection of the more experienced players such as Gordon and Price was called at the right time and gave Steelers a new edge to the game.

Today Steelers were hitting their shots significantly better than the previous day and this opened up Haifa's defense to plays inside. Excellent shooting was displayed from Hayes, Price and Gordon, fast breaks from youngster Brown and Joe Caudwell seemed to finally break through for the team. Steelers remained tough on defense with great support from Steelers fans. Constant shouting from the crowd added to a great team atmosphere when Steelers finished 65 to 56 Beit Halochem Haifa.
